According to Ball and Snider (2013), the surveillance-industrial complex was made up of a complex of military and corporates that took advantage of the “cold” wars in the twentieth century in order to grow. It is basically the act of monitoring activities and behaviors in the society for the purpose of gathering information. Hache and Jansen (2018), find importance in the surveillance industry due to many reasons. One reason is because it supports privacy protection laws. Another importance is that it helps individuals collect important data and get any information needed. And that is very beneficial for governments since it helps them get information that result in them making more accurate decisions regarding “bad guys” .
